Our Boat...
The Young Working Boaters Society are looking into the idea of running their own
historic narrowboat which they could use to help promote the club, educate its
members and the public on the use of working boats and the inland waterways.
In the meantime you can see the YWBS members travelling around the system on their
own boats which include:

ARIEL
Ariel was built in 1935 by W. J. Yarwood and Sons of Northwich for Midlands and
Coast as a full length (70ft) motor boat. She then passed into British Waterways
ownership during the 1950s where she was modified ro create two boats. Today,
she has been restored to form a 50ft tug.

BEATTY
Beatty was built by Yarwoods for Samuel Barlow in 1937 of composite construction
(steel sides and elm bottom) and originally powered by a single cylinder Petter
engine. Beatty was converted in the 1960s and has recently been restored.

CACTUS
Cactus was built in 1935 by W. J. Yarwood and Sons of Northwich for the well
known fleet, Fellows, Morton and Clayton Ltd. She worked for FMC until
nationalisation in 1948 where she passed into British Waterways ownership. |
CLOVER & FAZELEY
Clover and Fazeley were both built for the Fellows, Morton and Clayton fleet,
with Clover being built in 1935 and Fazeley in 1921. Both boats have now been
restored and are loaded on a regular basis. |

EMILY ANNE
Emily Anne is a newly built (1990) dutch style narrowboat now used for cruising
the canal system extensively and powered by a steam plant.

HYPERION
Hyperion is a 1935, Grand Union, Little Woolwich motor boat built by Harland and
Wolff. She is 71' 6" in length and is in full working order and loaded on a
regular basis. |

ILFORD
Ilford is a 1912 built Fellows, Morton and Clayton butty boats, know as a
Josher. She is still of composite construction and in working condition. |
SICKLE
Sickle was built in 1936 by Yarwoods for the Grand Union Canal Carrying Company,
originally 71' 6" long. She was converted into an icebreaker in 1942 and has
recently been restored, now used to load when ever possible.
