Education...

The main aspect of the club is to teach the younger generation 'the ropes'. Some of the members have been fortunate enough to have been spent all their lives boating with families and friends, which has allowed them to learn from a range of people over the years. However, others aren't so fortunate and have only become interested in boats in the past few years, therefore we would like to help pass teach them skills.

Obviously for the most part, a club boat would help achieve our aims and would allow us to demonstrate to members the different techniques.

If we were to have a club boat we would hope to load it whenever possible so that it can be used to teach people how to take a loaded motor, and possibly butty around the canal system in this day and age.

This would allow us to teach members techniques such as

  • 'Strapping In'
  • Towing (both 'joeys' and butty boats')
  • Long Lining (inc. running blocks)

In the meantime we are continuing to teach members on our own boats and demonstrate traditional methods such as mangling at working boat events to engage the younger audience.
